Eileen Foti had always been familiar with the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York.
The Tappan resident developed great friendships with many Sisters during her 26 years working at Dominican College.
After she retired, Eileen felt called to take a step from observer to participant and become a Blauvelt Dominican Associate.
The Associate Program offers Catholic women and men the opportunity to explore their faith in a non-vowed way, with the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt to guide them.
As an Associate, Eileen attends congregational meetings and events, as well as “help[s] the sisters” in any way they need.
One of Eileen’s favorite congregational activities is the Autumn Festival. Each year, she sells tickets and runs a booth. Besides the Autumn Festival, she also works at the Motherhouse switchboard, as well as with Sister Joan Smith, O.P. Eileen and Sister Joan have put their artistic talents to good use and have put on many art exhibits for the local community at the Motherhouse.
Eileen believes that the Associate program has brought her “closer to [her] religious beliefs,” since she is directly involved with the women doing God’s work on Earth.
“[The faith and mission of the sisters] rubs off,” says Eileen, and have made her “a better Catholic.”
If you are interested in developing your relationship with God and the Sisters of Saint Dominic, consider joining the Associate Program. For more information, visit https://www.opblauvelt.org/become-an-associate.
