“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment
of what was spoken to her from God.” -Luke 1:45
March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate women’s contributions in the United States and recognize their achievements throughout history. (1)
Several other observances in March also celebrate women, such as International Women’s Day on March 8th and Catholic Sisters Week, from March 8th – 14th.
These observances, especially Catholic Sisters Week, highlight Women Religious and their notable contributions to society.
Throughout Catholic Sisters Week, there are multiple opportunities to learn about the inspiring story of several Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York.
On Wednesday, March 8th, Sr. Terry Rickard, OP, a Sister of Saint Dominic, will participate in “A Candid Conversation About Religious Life” Discussion that will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube. This annual Catholic Sisters Week event will also feature Sisters Jeanne Shary, OP, and Jeannine DeClue, OP, of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.
Along with this event, the Sisters of Saint Dominic and Dominican Sisters of Sparkill will be recognized with proclamations this week by the Rockland County Legislature and the Town of Orangetown for Catholic Sisters Week.
Another opportunity to learn about another inspiring Sister of Saint Dominic will be on Thursday, March 9th, when the congregation will reshow last year’s #AskASister Conversation featuring Sr. BarbaraAnn Sgro, OP.
