How Can We Experience Holy Week?

By Katie Beckmann Mahon, Communications Manager

This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Mindfulness.

Embracing Faith Through Mindfulness

“For by grace, you have been saved through faith.

And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

-Ephesians 2:8

As we make our way into Holy Week and approach Easter Sunday, it is essential to remember what each day of this week truly means and how we should embrace it from a mindfulness perspective.

For Sr. Dorothy Maxwell, OP, she looks at Holy Week as “the time where Jesus lost his humanity and returned to his divinity.”

In the most recent episode of the Hearts Afire Podcast, Sr. Dorothy shared her thoughts on Holy Week and its relation to one’s mindfulness and spirituality.

During the episode, Sr. Dorothy shared, “In a sense, we must increase the divinity in us, and then we have to decrease our humanity for us to be with God for an eternity.”

Something else that Sr. Dorothy also expressed during the episode was that “I just hope that we will appreciate our life, health, and loved ones, after the year that we have suffered so many restrictions.”

Sr. Dorothy went on to add, “In a sense, we had a forced Lent, that continues. Suffering can purify us and make us stronger. Think about what you experienced this year, how you reacted to what is going on, and how your savior would want you to react? We are made in the image and lightness of God. Do you know it? Do you realize it?”

May we remember Sr. Dorothy’s words as we approach Easter Sunday.
