Embracing Faith Through Prayer – World Health Day

By Katie Beckmann Mahon, Communications Manager

This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Prayer.

Embracing Faith Through Prayer

"I will say to God, "You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God, and I trust you." -Psalms 91:2

People may not realize that today is World Health Day.

It’s a bit ironic that this observance, celebrated each year on April 7th, is occurring amid a worldwide pandemic.

However, this year’s World Health Day theme couldn’t be more fitting as it focuses on the impact of nurses and midwives around the world. (1)

Nurses, as well as other health care workers and first responders, have been on the front lines during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Now, more than ever, it is crucial to pray for the health and safety of all nurses, midwives, health care workers, and first responders on World Health Day.

A Prayer for World Health Day (1)

For the many women, men, and children whose lives

have been saved through global cooperation, God, we praise you.

For the many who needlessly suffer around the world

because of indifference or malice, God, we beg your blessing.

For the progress in people’s health made possible

by technology and creativity, God, we praise you.

For ways in which technology is misused or fails

to benefit those in most need, God, we beg your blessing.

For the continued grace you pour into our world,

struggling to do your will, God, we praise you.

As we labor to improve the health of those in this world,

may our notes of petition always end in a song of praise.

Amen.
