This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Prayer.

Embracing Faith Through Prayer

“I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger.” -Job 29:15

On Saturday, June 20th, people around the world will observe World Refugee Day.

Now, more than ever, it is so important to advocate for social change and embrace the 2020 Theme of World Refugee Day: Every Action Counts. (1)

This year, the United Nations aspires to raise awareness around the world that everyone, including refugees, can contribute to society, as well as that every minute, 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution, or terror. (1)

As Catholics, we need to remember and support these women and men with prayer on World Refugee Day.

Prayers for Refugees (1)

God, our refuge,

You share the journey with migrants and refugees,

lightening their footsteps with hope.

For you, God, are close to the broken-hearted.

Pour out your Spirit upon world leaders.

May they see the tragedies of our human family,

and be moved to respond with wisdom, compassion and courage.

Open our eyes and hearts to the God-given dignity of all your people.

Move us to welcome our neighbors, and so bear witness to your love.

Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
