Embracing Faith Through Community

“If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” -Galatians 5:25

Two weeks ago, Sr. Monica Paul Fraser, OP, and several Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, celebrated their Jubilee milestones.

For Sr. Monica, a member of the “Band of 1951”, this Jubilee marked 60 years of religious life for her and fellow band members.

On a recent episode of the Hearts Afire Podcast, Sr. Monica reflected on her milestone and “wonderful” 60 years as a Blauvelt Dominican Sister.

“It went by in a flash,” she shared. “Entrance day seems like yesterday, but what it really reminds me of every day is how kind and how generous God has been to me.”

During the episode, Sr. Monica also recalled her vocation story at the age of 18.

“It hit me in a totally different way,” explained Sr. Monica. “I knew what God wanted me to do, and I knew he wanted me to be a religious sister.”

Since then, Sr. Monica described her life as “one blessing after another.”

She added, “I’m just so grateful that God worked things out the way that he did. A total gift. I can’t even explain how happy the years have been.”

When discussing the “Band of 1951,” Sr. Monica had nothing but praise for her fellow band members.

“Getting to know each of the sisters was such a blessing because each one has so many gifts and so many qualities of character. Being in that band was a blessing.”

Along with praise, Sr. Monica also shared a message of gratitude for her fellow band members.

“Thank you so much. Thank you for sharing yourselves so generously with each of us, with the community.”
