ASSOCIATE COMMITMENT: December 29, 2002

Catherine Morrison LaDisa was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Glendale, NY. After graduating from Dominican Commercial HS in Queens she joined the Amityville Dominicans, having been taught by them from first grade through high school. She eventually left Amityville and joined the Blauvelt Dominicans in 1956 and taught 5th and 6th grades at St. Brendan’s School in Florida and Holy Spirit School in the Bronx.

Cathy left Blauvelt in 1967, married in 1968, and lived on Long Island until a move to Parrish, Florida in 1995. There she joined St. Francis X. Cabrini Parish and later St. Patrick Parish in Sarasota where she was the Director of Religious Education. Additionally, she served as lector and Eucharistic minister, established the RCIA program, and served on the Bishops’ Religious Advisory Council for the Venice Archdiocese. Her professional life consisted of teaching, social work, and therapy having received a MS in Education and a MA in theology.

Her family nurtured her faith and church had always been a motivating force in her life where she lived it out. Although it had been many years since leaving Blauvelt, it remained a significant shaper of her spirituality. Having maintained relationships with Blauvelt she always felt connected to the sisters’ spirit of mission and joined the Associates when offered the opportunity by Sr. Monica Paul.

Catherine was pre-deceased by her husband, John, and son, Robert. She is survived by three sons, one daughter, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
