JUDY CONNOLLY RICHARD

November 22, 1937 – February 27, 2019

ASSOCIATE COMMITMENT: November 16, 1985

Judy Connolly Richard was born in Yonkers and the Blauvelt Dominican Sisters connection began early as Sr. Gabriel Marie had been her baby sitter before becoming a Blauvelt Dominican. Judy attended Our Lady of the Rosary School, graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955, and entered the Congregation. Before leaving in 1968 she taught at St. Luke’s and Holy Cross schools.

She enrolled at Fordham University in 1968 for a master’s degree in counseling and obtained a Professional Diploma in the same area, eventually becoming licensed as a mental health counselor. Obtaining a position as a guidance counselor in the NYC Public School System which served the public schools, Judy was once again back with the Sisters at St. Pius, St. Luke, and Christ the King schools. She truly felt like she had come full circle!

Married to Bob in 1971, they moved to Florida in 1974 where Judy worked for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The next move was to North Carolina for 12 years, and then a return to Florida. Judy spent 43 years working with children and families in New York and St. Petersburg. While living in the south Judy (and often Bob) could be found spending time, especially in the summer, at the Motherhouse assisting in the Infirmary or attending retreats or prayer days.

Judy was in the first group of women to become Associates of the Congregation in 1985. She claimed it was a tribute to the Sisters to be willing to share their mission and charism with the laity. For her it was an opportunity be once again connected with the Blauvelt Community to share in their values.

Judy is pre-deceased by her husband, "Dr. Bob" and her parents. She is survived by her sister Gail.
