Lorraine J. Wieda-Miles, Associate, was a member of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York since 1966 and then went on to serve as an Associate until her passing on December 14, 2012.

Lorraine J. Wieda-Miles, Associate

Lorraine was one of eight children.  She received a BA in psychology from Hunter College in 1980 and was a certified expressive art therapist.   Lorraine received her MSW from Fordham University in 2004.

She worked as a copy editor with Warren, Gorham & Lamont for 14 years and a public relations administrator for the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi.  Lorraine left this lucrative position to serve as a Social Worker at Encore 49 Residence in Mid-town and became the Director of Social Services for a few years.  The single room occupancy style supportive housing is for homeless elderly with very special needs.

Lorraine entered the Blauvelt Community in 1966 and was known as  Sr. Ann Christopher.  She left in 1971. At St. Teresa's parish in Woodside, NY, since 1989, Lorraine served as a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, parish council member, president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and unofficial photographer for the parish.  She was even asked to be the official photographer for the pastor's 25th jubilee.  Outside the parish she was a  volunteer tutor in the NYC schools.  Her interests included photography, wood sculpting, the arts and theater.   Sr. Pat Horan stated, "I personally know that Lorraine’s humble and quiet caring, compassionate presence is sorely missed by the Encore 49 Family.  Her "way' flowed from her love of God and thus her spirituality." Associate Anne Colon remembers Lorraine as a fine woman whose love for God was deep and whose dedication to the Church was quite admirable.  Her Spirit of service and contemplative life were also to be admired and desired. At her funeral mass, Pastor Msgr. Farrari remarked, "I like to think that her deep faith, hope and love were translated into a life of service." Lorraine was the wife of Russell Miles. She was a sister to Richard, Robert, Stephen, Elizabeth, Diane, John and Christopher.  Her funeral mass was celebrated at St. Teresa Church, Woodside, NY.
