In Memoriam - Sister Anne Cecile Merrill, OP

SISTER ANNE CECILE MERRILL, O.P.,formerly Marie Merrill, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 80 years died on November 8, 2012, in St. Martin de Porres Infirmary. Sister Anne Cecile was 101 years of age.

Sister Anne Cecile Merrill, OP

Sister Anne Cecile was born to Anne Masterson Merrill and Leon Merrill on, December 24, 1910, in the Bronx, New York. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 8, 1930, from St. Augustine's Parish, Bronx, N.Y. Sister received the Dominican habit on April 13, 1931; professed her first vows on April 14, 1932, and her final vows on April 17, 1936.

Sister held the B.A. in English from Manhattan College and the M.L.S. from St. John's University.

Sister's many years of active ministry were devoted to education as a teacher and/or librarian at the elementary, high  school, and college levels. She taught in the following schools: St. Luke's, Bronx, N.Y., 1932-1936; Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Goshen, N.Y., 1936-1939 and 1954-1960; Our Savior's School, Bronx, N.Y., 1939-1943; St. Paul's School, Daytona Beach, Florida, 1943-1950; St. Dominic's School, Blauvelt, N.Y., 1950-1951 and Part-time 1965-1971; St. Benedict's, Bronx, N.Y., 1951-1954, and St. Anselm's, Bronx, N.Y., 1960-1965. In 1965 Sr. Anne Cecile began her 35 years of ministry at Dominican College as Assistant Professor of Education and English, AV Coordinator and Reference and Periodical Librarian. Sister retired from active ministry in 2000 and served the Congregation as Historian until 2006. In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Anne Cecile is survived by her nieces Patricia Merrill, Jean Marie Pascuiti, Mary Susan Lynch, Ann Cecile McGowan, as well as 12 grand nieces and nephews and 10 great grand nieces and nephews. Sister was predeceased by her brother Vincent Merrill.
