SISTER DIANE MARIE FORREST, O.P., a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York for the past 50 years died on March 4, 2023 at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Sister Diane was 71 years of age.
Sister Diane was born to Edward and Doris Daly Forrest on June 30, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on August 25, 1973 from St Paul Parish in Daytona Beach, Florida. Sister’s reception into the congregation was on September 1, 1974; she professed her first vows on August 31, 1975 and her final vows on October 2, 1983.
Sister held the BA in English and Education from St. Mary Dominican College, Louisiana; the MS in Religious Education from Fordham University, Bronx, New York.; and the MSW in Social Work from New York University, New York.
Sister’s many years in ministry were devoted to education, parish pastoral work and social work. Sister taught at the following schools: St. Luke School (1973-1974); St Anselm School (1975-1980); St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School (1980-1985); St. Pius High School (2007-2011) and St. Raymond Academy for Girls (2011-2018), all in Bronx, New York. She served as a pastoral assistant and director of religious education at St. Michael Parish Church, Bronx, New York (1985-1988) and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish Tappan, New York (1988-1990). Sister also taught at Fr. Lopez High School, Daytona Beach, Florida ((1999-2001). She was a clinical social worker at Children’s Village Westchester, New York (1995-1996), Kingsbridge Women’s Assessment (1997-1999), and Highbridge Community Life Center in Bronx New York (2001-2006). Sister also ministered at Dominican University, Orangeburg, New York, (1990-1994) and (2018-2022).
In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Diane is survived by her sisters Janet Flynn, Janice Turcotte and Donna Koontz, her brothers Stephen and Edward Forrest, and several nieces and nephews. Sister was predeceased by her parents Edward and Doris Daly Forrest, her brother Joseph and her devoted aunt Kathryn Hastings.
