Scripture Reflection - February 2, 2025

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Malachi 3:1-4 - Hebrews 2:14-18 - Luke 2:22-32

Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York Scripture Reflection

Trusting in God’s timing isn’t always easy, especially when we’re waiting for answers or direction in life. This passage reminds us that God is always at work, even when we can’t see it right away. God opens us, when we listen deeply, to what’s best for us, and when we put our faith in God and God’s activity in our lives, we can find peace, just like Simeon did.

Another important lesson here is faithfulness. Mary and Joseph didn’t just believe in God—they lived their faith through their actions. That’s a challenge for us, too. Following God’s will isn’t just about what we believe in our hearts; it’s about how we live each day. The Catholic community of faith gives us guidance through its teachings and sacraments, helping us grow in faith and stay close to Christ. When we follow the path God has invited us to follow, we open ourselves up to God’s abundant grace.

And then there’s this most beautiful truth: Jesus is the light for the whole world. No matter how much darkness we face—whether in our personal struggles or in the world around us—Christ is always our hope. Like Simeon, we’re called to recognize Christ’s presence and share the power and love of Christ’s light with others. Through prayer, kindness, acts of justice, study, service to people in need, and simply staying faithful, we become part of God’s vision of unconditional love. The more we trust in God and align ourselves with the light of Christ, the more we experience divine peace.

Prayer

Loving God, help me to listen for your voice and to trust that I am called to participate fully in building the Reign of God. Give me the courage to follow Your word and open to your grace so that others may see your light through me.

Amen.
