Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Daniel 7:13-14, Revelation 1:5-8, John 18: 33b -27
Responsorial: “The Lord is King; he is clothed in majesty.”
Each year, at this time, as we reflect on the Last Days and the Coming of Jesus as King on the clouds, at the end of time, we become more aware of the passage of time in our own lives.
The feast of Christ, our King, celebrates Jesus, who is unlike the kings of our world, but One who took on our humanity in earthly flesh, like us in everything but sin. His kingdom cannot be compared to earthly kingdoms, but one led by the One who brings real peace, sees the poor, hears the cry of the lowly and the oppressed. In this kingdom, no one is hungry, naked or alone, unjustly treated or disregarded.
When Jesus responds to Pilate’s question, “ Are you the King of the Jews?”, He exclaims that his Kingdom does not belong to this world. Jesus testifies that He came into the world to testify to the Truth.
As Followers of our King of Peace and Justice, we are being challenged to proclaim this Kingdom of God to our broken world, wherever we may be.
Loving God, open our minds and hearts, as we await your final coming, so to follow you and to serve you by living in peace and seeking peace and justice for all who are suffering under regimes of oppression throughout our world.
Amen.
